Addiction And Covid-19

In an article written by Lipi Roy, MD, MPH on March 16th in Forbes, she states over 23 million Americans suffer from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) with only 10% of those seeking treatment. She points out the unique circumstance under which this population is more vulnerable in contracting and spreading of the Coronavirus. She explores the various settings under which treatment is given. There are unique risk factors to those suffering from addiction both in treatment and those who are not.  “The economic consequences of COVID-19 will be particularly acute for those who are unstably housed, economically insecure, and who are dependent on social services,” Sandro Galea, MD, MPH, Dean, Boston University School of Public Health. “Individuals with SUD often face all three of these challenges, placing them at particularly high risk of experiencing poorer health due to COVID-19-induced societal shifts.”  Read the entire article here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/lipiroy/2020/03/16/addiction-treatment-facilities-are-they-prepared-for-covid-19/#45274f6d44ea
